Here comes the Sun: Donald Sun saves AVP, infuses life into volleyball

In August 2013, the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) prepared for the opener of its first full season under new ownership and needed drinks and snacks for the players hospitality tent in Salt Lake City.

“Usually, they would send an intern to do something like that,” Phil Dalhausser, an Olympic champion and one of the AVP stars, recalled to Thrive Sports.

So imagine Dalhausser’s surprise when Donald Sun, the AVP’s new owner, hopped in his rental car and headed to Costco.

“Donald is a super laid back, relaxed guy,” Dalhausser said. “You would never think he comes from a family worth – I don’t know how much? – a lot of money.

“He’s not afraid to get his hands dirty.”
