BIOGRAPHY

Already a celebrated indoor player, Brittany Hochevar made her beach debut in Chicago in 2004, playing with Sarah Drury. While the duo failed to advance from the qualifier, Hochevar continued to build upon her beach skills and in 2005, she finished a best of 17th in consecutive events (Huntington Beach, Manhattan Beach) with partner Kimberly Coleman. 

In 2006, Hochevar played her first event with Angie Akers in Fort Lauderdale where the duo placed 13th. Hochevar then partnered with indoor Olympian Logan Tom for four events, placing 13th in three of them. Hochevar suffered a devastating back injury that temporarily paralyzed her left leg, forcing her to withdraw from finishing the remainder of the AVP season.

Hochevar made a miraculous recovery from the injury and returned the next season to partner with Lauren Fendrick for the first part of the 2007 season, earning her first top-ten finish as the duo placed ninth in Dallas in what was only their second event together. Just two events later, they finished 7th in Glendale. Following the Tampa event where the pair finished 17th, Hochevar paired up with Keao Burdine for the next three events, finishing a best of ninth at Charleston in their first event together. She then played with beach veteran Holly McPeak for the next two events, before finishing out the season with Burdine. Hochevar and Burdine cracked into the top-five with a fifth place finish in Mason, Ohio in the final event of the year. 

Hochevar and Burdine started out 2008 together, but just played three events before Hochevar partnered with Jennifer Fopma. After finishing 17th in three consecutive events, Hochevar and Fopma notched back-to-back top-ten finishes in Long Beach and San Diego. 

The following year, Hochevar and Fopma placed ninth or better in all but two events. Hochevar played in her first final in Brooklyn as she and Fopma fell to Dianne DeNeocochea and Carrie Dodd in a three-set thriller.

In 2010, Hochevar partnered with DeNeocochea. The duo’s best finish together came when they placed in the Santa Barbara finals. Hochevar then re-partnered with Angie Akers for the 2012 season as the duo came into the Cincinnati Open as the No. 8 seed. After losing their opening match to Kristen Batt and Raquel Ferreira, the pair knocked off three straight opponents before eventually falling to Christal Engle and Tealle Hunkus to finish 7th. Having clinched a spot in the AVP Championships, the duo placed 10th in Santa Barbara the next weekend. 

As a freshman, Hochevar replaced Misty May at Long Beach State as setter. A three-time All-Big West honoree, she was named a Volleyball Magazine All-American her junior season as an opposite attacker and an AVCA All-American her senior year as a setter; making her the first athlete to be awarded such honors for playing in two different positions. Hochevar showed her versatility by leaving LBSU ranked in the top 10 in assists, digs and block assists as well as being the current record holder for career aces. She also was selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District team, and graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Marketing. Hochevar was a member of the indoor U.S. National Team from 2002-04. From 2005-08, she split her time between playing indoor professionally during the winter in Puerto Rico, Turkey and Spain, and then playing beach domestically during the summer. Hochevar committed fully to beach from 2009-11 when she then signed an indoor contract to play during the winter in Russia.  

Her dad, Brian, played for the Denver Nuggets and coaches baseball and her mom, Carmen, played Division II volleyball and basketball at Southern Colorado. She has two brothers, Luke and Dylan. Luke, a pitcher formerly on the University of Tennessee baseball team and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, made his major league debut on Sept. 8, 2007 with the Kansas City Royals. Dylan played baseball for the University of Tennessee and Tusculum College.
