BIOGRAPHY

Entering his tenth year as a beach volleyball pro, Casey Patterson has been consistently climbing the ranks on the AVP Tour since 2007, when he started out ranked 83rd.

Patterson had his first top-ten finish in 2008, when he and partner John Moran worked their way through the qualifier in Miami, winning four straight matches before falling in the second round of the winner’s bracket to Aaron Wachtfogel and Mark Williams. The pair then won two more matches in the consolation bracket, ultimately finishing ninth. Patterson played two more tournaments with Moran, finishing 17th at both Dallas and Charleston. Playing with three different partners for the remainder of the season, Patterson finished in the top-20 in every event.

In 2009, Patterson partnered with Ty Loomis and the duo solidified their standing as a top-ten team, finishing ninth or better in 12 of the 14 events they competed in. Patterson gained his first AVP title in Brooklyn where the pair won their first two matches before dropping their third match in the winner’s bracket to John Mayer and Jeff Nygaard. Patterson and Loomis then picked up five consecutive wins as they advanced through the contender’s bracket to take the title. En route to taking home first place, the pair defeated each of the tournament’s top four seeds.

Patterson then teamed up with Kevin Wong for the 2010 season, as the duo competed in seven events and finished outside the top-ten just once. The pair had a streak of three events where they finished fifth or better, including taking home third at both Huntington Beach and Belmar. Patterson also competed internationally for the first time in 2011, partnering with Brad Keenan for eight of the nine events. Patterson and Keenan had a best finish of ninth, which they took in their first event in Brasilia, Brazil.

Patterson competed in both AVP events in 2012, playing with Ryan Doherty for both. In Cincinnati, the duo came in as the No. 5 seed, winning their first match against Andrey Belov and Adam Roberts before falling to Brad Keenan and John Mayer in three sets. Working their way through the contender’s bracket, Patterson and Doherty won against Kevin McColloch and Mike Placek, and Ryan Mariano and Ed Ratledge, before falling to Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers. The fifth place finish earned the pair a bid to the AVP championships the following weekend in Santa Barbara. At the Championships, Patterson and Doherty won their first two matches against Mariano and Ratledge, and Paul Baxter and Pedro Brazao before falling in their final pool play match to Matt Fuerbringer and Nick Lucena to finish sixth. Patterson will partner with Olympian Jake Gibb for the 2013 season.

Patterson played college volleyball at Brigham Young University (BYU) where he graduated with a degree in recreational management. During his time at BYU, Patterson played a multitude of positions including setter, outside hitter, libero and opposite hitter. Following graduation, Patterson went on to play professionally in Puerto Rico (2005, 2007) and in Sweden (2006).  Patterson played in the Swedish Elite Professional League as an outside hitter for Falkenberg, leading the team to the finals where they won the gold medal. Patterson and wife, Lexi, were married in 2005 and have two sons, Cash and Guy.
