Brazilian pair Rufino and Salgado top seeds at Fuzhou Open Women’s Qualification Tournament

Fuzhou, China, April 23, 2013 – Maria Clara Salgado Rufino and Carolina Solberg Salgado are named top seeds for the Women’s Qualification Tournament of the Fuzhou Open in China, which starts on Wednesday.
A total of 21 teams were seeded following Tuesday’s technical meeting for the Qualification Tournament with Rufino and Salgado topping the draw. The Brazilian pair has won a number of Open medals including gold at the Myslowice Open in 2008.
AVP’s Brittany Hochevar Wins Bronze in Guatemala

The AVP’s Brittany Hochevar and her partner Emily Day captured the bronze medal in the women’s competition at this weekend’s third stop on the 2013 NORCECA Beach Circuit. Hochevar and Day reached the semis of the Gatorade Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament in Guatemala City, where they were defeated by fellow Americans Jenny Kropp and Whitney Pavlik.
Hochevar and Day faired better in the third place match, where they prevailed over the Guatemalan duo of Maria Jose Orellana and Lourdes Ramirez 21-13, 21-8.

Fuzhou, China, April 22, 2013 – European champion in 2007, Clemens Doppler and partner Alexander Horst of Austria are the top seeds for the Men’s Qualification Tournament of the Fuzhou Open in China, which starts on Tuesday.
A total of 28 teams were seeded following Monday’s technical meeting for the Qualification Tournament with Doppler, who has been playing since 1996 and finished second at the Stare Jablonki Grand Slam last year after teaming up with Alexander Horst at the start of last year, topping the draw.
Former AVP Player and U.S. Olympian Caren Kemner to be inducted into Volleyball Hall of Fame

Former U.S. Olympic Beach Volleyball and AVP women’s player Caren Kemner will be inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Holyoke, MA on October 18. Kemner (48) was a member of the U.S. National Team between 1985 and 1996. During that time the Illinois native competed in three Olympic Games, winning a Bronze Medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
Kemner also led the U.S. to its first ever FIVB World Grand Prix gold medal in 1995.

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 19, 2013 – Olympic men’s silver medallists Alison Cerutti and Emanuel Rego have withdrawn from the opening event of the 2013 beach volleyball season – the Fuzhou Open – due to an injury suffered by Alison to his little finger on his left hand while training.
The 2011 world champions have only been ruled out of the Fuzhou Open, which runs from Tuesday to Sunday, having presented a medical certificate to the FIVB but are expected to participate in the Shanghai Grand Slam which will take place from April 30 to May 5.
