Keizer & Van Iersel top Pool B on day one of Fuzhou Open

Sanne Keize, Marleen Van Iersel, avp, beach volleyball, sand volleyball, fuzhouFuzhou, China, April 25, 2013 – Sanne Keizer and Marleen Van Iersel from the Netherlands top Pool B after winning their first two matches of the Fuzhou Open in China on Thursday.

The Dutch pair made hard work of their first match in the morning against China’s Wang Fan and Ding Jingjing, but held on in the third set to win 21-19, 16-21, 15-13. Keizer and Van Iersel’s second match went a little more to their liking, beating Austrians Doris Schwaiger and Stefanie Schwaiger 23-21, 21-16.

Olympic champion Brink and new partner Fuchs progress

Brink won gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games with Jonas Reckermann and following Reckermann’s retirement joined forces with 26-year-old Sebastian Fuchs for the 2013 season.

Dampney & Boulton defeat Brazil to make Fuzhou Main Draw

zara dampney, lucy boulton, volleyball, beach volleyball, avp, fuzhouFuzhou, China, April 24, 2013 – Back-to-back Qualification Tournament wins from England's Zara Dampney and Lucy Boulton’s secured them a spot in the Fuzhou Open women's Main Draw after defeating top seeded qualifiers Maria Clara Salgado Rufino and Carolina Solberg Salgado from Brazil on Wednesday.

Dampney and Boulton successfully made it through their first qualification match in the morning beating Galindo Andrea and Galindo Claudia of Colombia 21-16, 21-15. In a difficult draw the new British pairing then faced the Brazilian top seeds, but emerged triumphant securing themselves a Main Draw position 21-16, 21-19.

The 'Burg Plays Host to Pro Volleyball

petersburg, volleyball, avp, kerri walshThe Association of Volleyball Professionals has chosen the 'Burg to be the site of its East Coast stop as part of the 2013 national tour, which is set to take place September 14-15 at Vinoy Park. 

Touring with the AVP this year includes U.S.A volleyball Gold Medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings among other top athletes. According to a survey featured on the AVP website, St. Petersburg is the tour stop that everyone is most excited about thus far. This nationally televised event will be an opportunity for local businesses to participate and act as sponsors.

Dalhausser & Rosenthal in top position at Men's Fuzhou Open

A little finger injury sustained by Alison during training means the pair will have to sit out Fuzhou, opening the field to a number of new combinations in the first international tournament of the season.
