U.S. Men Go 5-1 in Shanghai Main Draw

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 1, 2013) – Three U.S. men’s beach volleyball teams went 5-1 in main draw pool play on Wednesday at the FIVB Shanghai Grand Slam, part of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.
Meanwhile, two U.S. women’s beach volleyball teams – Emily Day (Torrance, Calif.) and Brittany Hochevar (Fowler, Colo.) along with Jennifer Fopma (Bellflower, Calif.) and Brooke Sweat (Fort Myers, Fla.) – qualified for the main draw in Shanghai.
Chinese newcomers upset former Shanghai Open champions

Shanghai, China, May 2, 2013 – Chinese wild card players Jin Jieqiong and Miao Chenchen upset 2011 Shanghai Open champions Marleen Van Iersel/Sanne Keizer of the Netherlands here Thursday morning to record their first win together in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour.
Jin and Miao, who had united since 2011 but never entered the Main Draw in any World Tour event, pulled out a surprising 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) victory over the Dutch women in 33 minutes in their opening match in pool B.
Salgado sisters lead eight teams into Shanghai Main Draw

Shanghai, China, May 1, 2013 – Reunited Salgado sisters from Brazil held off a strong late challenge from Austria’s Barbara Hansel/Katharina Schutzenhofer on Wednesday to lead eight qualifying teams into the 2013 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Shanghai Grand Slam women’s Main Draw.
Playing together again after Carolina gave birth to a baby boy last year, Maria Clara and Carolina Solberg Salgado failed to qualify for the Main Draw in the season-opening Fuzhou Open but this time they did not let the chance slip away, beating the Austrains 21-16 and 22-20 in the second and last round of the women’s Qualification Tournament.
Rogers, Doherty Fall in Shanghai Qualifier

Puerto Rico and Chile start off on the right foot

Guatemala City, Guatemala, April 29, 2013 – Puerto Rico and Chile opened with victories in the battle for the last berth available to the FIVB Volleyball Girl’s U18 World Championship at the Pan American Cup on Monday in Guatemala.
Puerto Rico defeated Colombia in four sets (25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-15) while Chile crushed hosts Guatemala in straight sets (25-18, 25-11, 25-7).
