Lindsey Campbell Joins Pitt Volleyball Staff

An All-American as a player and a National Championship winning coach, former Concordia University assistant Lindsey Campbell has been named assistant coach for the University of Pittsburgh women’s volleyball program, as announced by head coach Dan Fisher.

Campbell comes with Fisher from Concordia after being an integral part of team’s unparalleled success over the past two seasons which culminated in the Eagles winning the 2012 NAIA National Championship. Fisher and Campbell coached Concordia University to a 75-2 record over the past two seasons.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Lindsey for the past two seasons and I know first-hand what an asset she will be,” Fisher said. “Lindsey knows the game at a high level, she is a people person and she understands the type of team culture we want to create. Pitt volleyball is lucky to have her on board.”

Misty May-Treanor always a gracious winner

Misty May-Treanor had the best seat in the house at Tuesday's Long Beach Century Club awards banquet - front row table, dead center - to watch the various award winners walk up the stage to receive their awards.

Consistent with her life, the volleyball star was generous with her time as athletes broke ranks for a quick hello or picture. Consistent with her volleyball career, she was keenly focused, this time on the sartorial choices of some of the winners.

The players on the Long Beach PONY World Series championship team, for example, walked by her table wearing dress shirts, ties and athletic footwear.

Volleyball festival runs Feb. 20-24

The 21st Marianas Cup Beach Volleyball Festival will host the Marianas Pro Am Cup for the first time on Guam, Feb. 20-24, at Gun Beach in Tumon.

"For over 20 years the festival has been hosted in Saipan and this year it will be the first for Guam," said John Cramer, the tournament director and the vice president of the Guam Volleyball Federation. The Federation Internationale de Volleyball has officially sanctioned the event since 2008, the release stated.

The festival is a series of events that will kick off with the Marianas Junior Cup in Saipan Feb. 16-17 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa. That will be followed by the Marianas Pro Am Cup on Guam and the Marianas Kids Cup on March 3, which will be held in both Guam and Saipan.

Beach volleyball fails to make it to the 2018 Commonwealth Games

Beach Volleyball will not be included on the programme for the 2018 Commonwealth Games following a decision by the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC). The Corporation reaffirmed that no additional sports would be proposed for the 2018 Commonwealth Games sports programme that comprises 10 core sports (including para-sports) and an additional seven optional sports, capping the number at 17.
