Sport Minister Steve Dickson served the opening volleyball to Olympic gold medallist Natalie Cook as he officially opened the Sunshine Coast’s new world-class beach volleyball facilities this morning.

Mr Dickson said the Queensland Government had contributed $146,000 toward building the three new courts at Chancellor State College campus in Sippy Downs.

“We are determined to increase participation in grassroots community sport across Queensland, and projects like this are just another way we’re doing that,” Mr Dickson said.

Sands of Time Hits the Screen

Sands of Time - on AVP Beach Volleyball websiteRedondo Beach resident and beach volleyball historian Artie Couvillon spent the past two years putting his three-volume book series The Sands of Time: The History of Beach Volleyball on DVD.

The five disc, six hour DVD series captures the history of beach volleyball and is narrated by former “Voice of the AVP” and current broadcaster for Time Warner Cable SportsNet Chris “Geeter” McGee.

In 2011, Couvillon was asked to put together a slide show by the CBVA (California Beach Volleyball Association) when it was announced that the Hermosa Beach Historical Museum would be the home of the CBVA Hall of Fame.

EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour Starts This Week in Vilnius

AVP Beach Volleyball NewsVilnius, Lithuania, May 7, 2013. The 2013 edition of the Beach Volleyball tour promoted by the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) will get started this week in Lithuania’s capital city, Vilnius.


The tournament is open only to female duos and will be joined by a total of 17 teams, with five representing the host country, four from Latvia, six from Russia and two for the likes of Belarus. For the very first time – following a decision by FIVB – the various stops of the EEVZA Tour will be distributing FIVB Ranking Points, something that definitely enhances the attractiveness and appeal of each tournament especially for young and up-and-coming players.

Teams Confirmed for Corrientes Grand Slam

AVP Beach Volleyball News - Teams Confirmed...Lausanne, Switzerland, May 8, 2013 – The teams for the second Grand Slam of the year – the Corrientes Grand Slam in Argentina – have been confirmed following the passing of the deadline for federations to make any changes.
 
Federations had until the end of Monday (Lausanne time) to confirm which of their teams would fill their respective national federation positions in the Corrientes Grand Slam Main Draw and Qualification tournaments, which will take place from May 22 to 26.
