Van Zwieten and his partner Joey Dykstra advanced from the qualifier in Atlanta in 2007, becoming the youngest team (men or women) to qualify since that information was kept at the start of 2001, with a combined age of just over 39.5 years.
Graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 2005, leading his team to a 31-0 mark and a state championship, and was named the MVP. Comes from a volleyball family, with older brothers Steve and Jim having played on the AVP Tour and a younger brother, Andrew, who is starting to play. Mark has played in four FIVB Beach Volleyball Junior World Championships and competed in the Under 19 Beach Volleyball World Championships in France in 2005.
