Alison/Harley wrap up Brazilian title, FIVB honors its best

Men’s international postseason honors were awarded over the weekend, with Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser taking home additional hardware to complement the numerous AVP trophies already on his mantle.
Dalhausser earned three top honors: Best Setter, Best Hitter and Best Offensive Player.
Having played a shortened international schedule in 2009, he finished second in voting for Most Inspirational and Best Blocker.

By winning their first match on Friday at the Maceio stop in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Alison and Harley officially clinched the 2009 men's tour title after winning the previous five Brazilian events.
The duo capped it off with its sixth consecutive tournament championship by defeating 2008 Olympic silver medalists Fabio/Marcio 22-20, 18-15. Bronze went to Fabio/ Ferramenta as their competitors, Rodrigo/Hevaldo, were forced to withdraw due to injury.
On the women’s side, Talita/Maria continued their winning ways with another gold medal victory against Angela/Vivian, this time by the score of 18-14, 18-12. Taiana/Virna rebounded from their devastating three-set loss in Recife to beat sisters Maria Clara/Carolina 12-18, 18-14, 19-17 to take home the bronze medal.
NCAA Top 10
#1 Penn State (28-0, 16-0 Big Ten): Top-ranked Penn State swept No. 5 Illinois (25-20, 27-25, 25-15) Friday night. The following evening, the Nittany Lions extended their extraordinary winning streak to 92 matches by defeating Northwestern 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20) in front of a standing-room-only crowd of 5,312 at Recreation Hall.
#2 Texas (20-1, 15-1 Big 12): No. 2 Texas rebounded from a first-set loss to beat Texas Tech 3-1 Wednesday night at Gregory Gymnasium by the score of 19-25, 25-13, 25-10, 25-14.
#3 Hawai'i (26-2, 16-0 Western Athletic): The third-ranked Rainbow Wahine opened their three-match road trip with a 25-16, 25-14, 25-16 sweep over Boise State Thursday night at Bronco Gym in Boise, Idaho. Saturday, Hawaii won its 21st straight match, beating Idaho 25-12, 25-15, 25-21 at Memorial Gym in Moscow, Idaho. And last night, UH completed the WAC season with a perfect 16-0 record by beating Utah State 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13.
#4 Washington (21-4, 11-4 Pacific 10): The Huskies came up two points short on the road Friday night at 17th-ranked USC as the Trojans came back from 2-1 down to beat Washington 25-18, 24-26, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13. Saturday Washington powered back to sweep No. 6 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion and return to first place in the Pac-10 with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 victory.
#5 Illinois (21-4, 13-3 Big Ten): After No. 1 Penn State snapped Illinois' 11-match win streak Friday, the Fighting Illini returned to their winning ways Sunday by defeating Ohio State 3-1 (25-17, 25-8, 18-25, 25-21) at St. John Arena.
#6 UCLA (20-7, 10-4 Pacific 10): The Bruins defeated #25 Washington State in four sets (25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-23) on Friday, temporarily moving into a first place tie in the Pac-10 with Washington. But Saturday, UCLA saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of that very team.
#7 Stanford (18-7, 11-4 Pacific 10): Stanford took down No. 16 Oregon 25-23, 25-16, 25-23 Friday night at Maples Pavilion. Saturday, the Cardinal continued their winning ways by sweeping Oregon State 25-18, 25-18, 25-19.
#8 Iowa State (22-4, 14-3 Big 12): The Cyclones swept Texas A&M Wednesday night (25-22, 25-22, 31-29) for their school-record 13th conference win of the season. Saturday, Iowa State head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch celebrated her 100th career victory with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-10 sweep of Kansas State.
#9 Nebraska (19-6, 12-4 Big 12): Friday evening, the Huskers powered to a 3-0 sweep (29-27, 25-17, 25-15) over Texas A&M.
#10 Florida (20-4, 14-3 Southeastern): The Gators suffered a 3-1 conference defeat Friday night at the hands of the LSU Tigers (24-26, 25-23, 25-19, 25-17).
