Phil Dalhausser has been named the FIVB's Best Offensive Player, Best Hitter and Best Setter of 2009.
He hasn’t played for a month and a half, but the awards keep coming for Phil Dalhausser. This time, it’s the FIVB recognizing the Beast for his stellar 2009 season.
The FIVB has named Dalhausser the Best Offensive Player, Best Hitter and Best Setter of its 2009 men’s tour as voted on by players, coaches, referees and officials associated with the international circuit. It was the AVP star’s third FIVB hitting award, second offensive player honor, and first setter award.
Dalhausser nearly took home Most Inspirational Player as well, finishing second to Brazil’s Harley Marques. Dalhausser also finished second in Best Blocker voting, won by German Jonas Reckermann.
Dalhausser received votes for Sportsman of the Year, as did fellow AVP standout Casey Jennings.
Last month, Dalhausser stole the spotlight at the AVP awards banquet. His main draw peers voted Dalhausser Best Blocker, Best Offensive Player and Most Valuable Player. He and partner Todd Rogers also won Team of the Year honors.
Dalhausser and Rogers won 2009 FIVB grand slam events in Marseille, France, and Klagenfurt, Austria. Dalhausser was named Most Outstanding Player for Marseille. The defending Olympic gold medalists placed third at July’s World Championship in Stavanger, Norway.
Most Outstanding Player voting resulted in a tie, with Marques and Germany’s Richard Schuil sharing the award.
Jennings, Rogers and Sean Rosenthal all received votes for Best Defensive Player, asserting the AVP’s defensive prowess. Matt Fuerbringer garnered votes for Best Blocker and Best Hitter and Rogers received Best Setter votes.
