April Ross and Jen Kessy win their second tournament of the year in Ocean City.

Third-seeded John Hyden and Sean Scott defeated 2008 Olympic gold medalists and defending World Champions Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers for the second straight time at the AVP Crocs Tour Ocean City Open Presented by Malibu. On the women’s side, second-seeded Jennifer Kessy and April Ross also pulled off an upset, beating top seeds Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs.

Sunday’s final marked the second event in a row that Hyden and Scott defeated Dalhausser and Rogers in an AVP Crocs Tour final. The first was two week ago in Atlanta.

“To play them in the finals and beat them again is very rare,” Hyden said. “But we just never let up.”

Hyden and Scott beat Dalhausser and Rogers on the strength of Scott’s eight blocks, with a final score of 21-13, 21-18. Hyden and Scott are now undefeated through two tournaments, winning 11 straight matches in the process.

To advance to Sunday’s final, Hyden and Scott beat out fifth-seeded Matt Olson and Kevin Wong, 16-21, 21-17, 15-11. Dalhausser and Rogers took out seventh-seeded Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings, 21-19, 14-21, 15-9.

On the women’s side of the draw, Kessy and Ross defeated Branagh and Youngs 21-12, 21-15 to take home their second title of the 2009 AVP Crocs Tour season.

Kessy and Ross’ powerhouse performance was largely in part to a shared ten ace serves.

“Ten aces in a game is ridiculous,” Kessy said. “It’s something you dream about.”

Prior to Sunday’s final, Branagh and Youngs enjoyed a 35-1 match record. The top-ranked duo has won five of seven AVP Crocs Tour events this season, losing only to Kessy and Ross at the AVP Crocs Tour Houston Open.

Earlier Sunday, Kessy and Ross moved on by eliminating fourth-seeded Dianne DeNecochea and Carrie Dodd, 21-14, 18-21, 15-7, while Branagh and Youngs defeated fifth-seeded Jenny Johnson Jordan and Annett Davis 21-10, 20-22, 15-13.

The AVP Crocs Tour continues Fourth of July weekend in Coney Island, N.Y. For more information about the AVP Crocs Tour and to purchase tickets, please click here.
