Reigning Olympic beach volleyball gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers moved through Friday play undefeated at the AVP Crocs Tour Ocean City Open presented by Malibu..
Top-seeded Dalhausser/Rogers beat 32nd-seeded Ranse Jones and Tyler Lesneski, 21-15, 21-11, and17th-seeded Mike DiPierro and Adam Roberts, 21-10, 21-14 to move into Saturday’s third round.
Dalhausser/Rogers will play eighth-seeded Anthony Medel and Hans Stolfus at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Top-seeded women’s team Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs also moved on unscathed. They beat 32nd-seeded Beth Kennedy and Ginger Schuster, 21-8, 21-11, and 17th-seeded Raquel Caulkins and Paula Roca, 21-11, 21-18, to move on.
Branagh/Youngs will play 8th-seeded Katie Lindquist and Tracy Lindquist at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Branagh and Youngs have won five of six AVP Crocs Tour events in 2009 and have only dropped a single match.
Both second seeds - Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal and Jen Kessy/April Ross - also moved on undefeated.
The AVP Crocs Tour Ocean City Open presented by Malibu is taking place on the beach in Ocean City through Sunday.
