Olympians advance to the semifinal round

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, reigning beach volleyball gold medalists, swept their matches Saturday to move into Sunday’s semifinals of the AVP Crocs Tour Huntington Beach Open Presented by Bud Light.
Top-seeded Dalhausser/Rogers beat ninth-seeded Ryan Mariano and Ed Ratledge, 21-11, 21-16, Saturday morning, then beat 12th-seeded Ty Loomis and Casey Patterson, 21-15, 21-17. Loomis/Patterson made the fourth round by upsetting fourth-seeded John Mayer and Jeff Nygaard in straight sets Friday.
Dalhausser/Rogers will play at 12:15 p.m. in the semifinals Sunday against the winner between Mayer/Nygaard and third-seeded John Hyden/Sean Scott.
Top-seeded women’s team Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs also swept their way into the semis. They beat eighth-seeded Priscilla Lima and Tatiana Minello, 21-12, 21-15, and fourth-seeded Brooke Hanson and Lisa Rutledge, 21-15, 27-29, 15-10.
Branagh/Youngs will play at 10:45 a.m. in the semifinals Sunday against the winner between Lima/Minello and third-seeded Annett Davis/Jenny Johnson Jordan.
New father Casey Jennings - his wife, gold medalist Kerri Walsh, delivered a healthy baby boy Friday evening - and partner Matt Fuerbringer, the seventh seed, lost to second-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal in the third round and were later eliminated from the contenders bracket, finishing in seventh place.
Gibb/Rosenthal and second-seeded women’s team Jen Kessy/April Ross moved into the semifinals undefeated.
