Dalhausser and Rogers Advance At Huntington Beach

Reigning Olympic beach volleyball gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers moved through Friday play undefeated at the AVP Crocs Tour Huntington Beach Open.
Top-seeded Dalhausser/Rogers beat 32nd-seeded Pepe Delahoz and Scott Lane, 21-18, 21-13, and16th-seeded Jose Loiola and Larry Witt, 21-17, 22-20, to move into Saturday’s third round.
Dalhausser/Rogers will play ninth-seeded Ed Ratledge, who resides in Huntington Beach, and Ryan Mariano at 10:30 a.m.
Saturday.Top-seeded women’s team Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs also moved on unscathed. They beat 32nd-seeded Patti Cook and Jill Muhe, 21-11, 21-12, and 16th-seeded Diane Pascua and Alicia Polzin, 22-20, 21-19, to move on.
Branagh/Youngs will play 8th-seeded Priscilla Lima and Tatiana Minello at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Branagh and Youngs, winners of three of the year’s first four tournaments, now have a 21-1 match record this season.
Both second seeds - Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal and Jen Kessy/April Ross - also moved on undefeated.
On both sides of the draw, the twelfth-seeded team upset the fifth seeds. On the women’s side, twelfth-seeded Stacy Rouwenhorst/Whitney Pavlik defeated No. 5 seeds Carrie Dodd/Dianne DeNecochea 21-19, 22-24, 15-13. On the men’s, twelfth-seeded Ty Loomis/Casey Patterson took out fifth-seeded Brad Keenan/Nick Lucena 21-15, 18-21, 17-15.
