When not competing for a Gold Medal of his own, Phil Dalhausser plans on catching some of the handball competition.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The 19 days of glory that are better known as the Olympic Games are something special to watch. Whether it's because sports junkies get to get their fix of watching non-stop action of many different kinds of events or because the world gets a little bit closer when watching someone experience their one shinning moment in time, the upcoming Olympic Games in Beijing are sure to have something for everyone to enjoy.

"The Olympics is a magical week and I got my week there," said Kevin Wong who participated in the 2000 Sydney Olympics with Rob Heidger and finished fifth. "You never know, maybe I will be back there for London. I can see myself out there, but for this year I think we have unbelievable representatives who have been doing a great job on the road despite harsh conditions. I'm really excited and think they are going to do a great job."

Along with watching the fantastic four who will be representing the USA and AVP at this year's games, the players on the AVP Tour who did not qualify are getting ready to watch some of the other teams who will be wearing red, white and blue.

"I want to also see some of the men's and women's water polo games," said Jennifer Snyder. "A friend of mine, Natalie Golda, is on the women's team and she is awesome. We also like to watch track and field. My boyfriend and I are going to the Olympics and are leaving for Beijing the Monday after the San Diego Open."

Along with having favorite other sports to watch, some of the AVP players are looking forward to the Olympics so they can learn about the other athletes competing.

"All of the sports are magical," said Wong. "I am one of those guys who likes to watch the stories behind the racers and see who I like and then go and root for them. There are a lot of them I don't know so it will be interesting to see who I fall in love with."

With the Summer Olympics taking place every four years, it's an event that the AVP players don't miss even if they have other plans during the break.

"I am looking forward to watching the Olympics," said Matt Olson. "Four years ago when the Olympics were on I was on my honeymoon in Hawaii, so my wife and I watched the games every night. It was just awesome. Going to the Olympics is a dream of mine. I am looking forward to cheering on our girls and guys. I hope they do what they are expected to do."

In addition, the Olympics provide an opportunity for the AVP players to cheer on old friends.

"I like everything," said Olson. "From track and field events (discuss, high jump and javelin), sprints, swimming is not my favorite, but I love some of those match-ups. My wife and I are fans of women's softball because we went to the University of Arizona while Jennie Finch (pitcher on the USA Women's Softball team) was there. I just think that the athletes at that level are incredible and it's something I strive for."

Even though all four AVP teams that are going will be busy with their own competition schedules, there will still be time to be a fan in Beijing.

"Men's and women's volleyball," said Todd Rogers. "I think women's international volleyball is pretty entertaining with the rallies, but they are still very athletic. I kind of wanted to watch ping-pong and those guys go at it. It's pretty crazy as the high-level guys are standing five or six feet behind the table and just hammering the ball. I used to play ping-pong when I was a kid but never got that good!"

"I've heard handball is a ton of fun to watch, so I want to check that out," said Phil Dalhausser, who will be competing at his first Olympics. "I also want to check out the sprinters and see how fast those guys are. I think I could take them."

For some of the athletes participating at the Olympics, being able to watch and cheer on other sports is a stress reliever.

"We still want to win, but we know what to expect when we get there," said Misty May-Treanor. "I think there will be a good chance to support some of the other athletes and embrace the culture. We were so focused in Athens and did some of that stuff, but it's a good way to get your mind off of volleyball and then get re-focused."

No matter if this is their first, second or third Olympics, or if an AVP Player is just watching from home, the excitement for the 2008 Olympics is building.

"I am expecting to be 'wowed'," said Kerri Walsh "That's what the Olympics are about and it's going to help us do what we are expected to do."
