Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings capture the San Diego title.

SAN DIEGO, Calif., -- In keeping with the theme of upsets in the men's bracket this weekend, No. 6 Casey Jennings and Matt Fuerbringer defeated the No. 1 seed of Nick Lucena and Sean Scott in a beach burning three-game match, 19-21, 21-17 and 15-11.

"If I find out I will call you, let you know, bottle it up and sell it," said Fuerbringer of his back-to-back San Diego wins. "It's worth a lot of money. It's just great and it gives you confidence. You start expecting to win and doing that. That's how the teams who dominate on this tour win all of the time. It's hard thing to do when you are down three or four points against a good team."

After surviving their semifinal match against No. 15 seed Russ Marchewka and Mike Placek 24-22 and 21-15, Jennings and Fuerbringer found themselves in a familiar situation as they trailed for most of their first game of their final match.

"Every time we get out there we tell each other to leave everything out there, but stay patient," said Fuerbringer. "I think we are doing a better job of doing that. The hard part is doing that throughout a whole tournament."

In game two, Jennings and Fuerbringer rallied by taking control of the game on a kill by Fuerbringer to break a 5-5 tie. Once they took the lead, they never looked back on their way to a game two win.

"We just stayed patient and believed in ourselves as a team," said Jennings. "We didn't let them beat us. We made them convert and just didn't do the right things in the first game. We knew that we lost 21-19 barely and we didn't play that great. We knew to stay patient and that's something we've learned. I can get really pissed off and it doesn't help us. I'm trying to figure that out, adjust and modify my behavior on the court. These guys tell me that it helps me out a lot and I need fire, but I need to fire it in another way and not directed at myself or Matt."

In the tie-breaker game, Jennings and Fuerbringer continued to control the tempo of the game by after breaking a 7-7 tie, holding off a late-game rally by Lucena and Scott and then sealing the deal with the win.

"It's near our home and we always play good at home I think," said Jennings. "With all the tournaments on the west coast, Matt and I seem to like being close to our families, friends and homes. We did all of the right things and put it together. We also stayed patient in all of our matches which is huge in this sport."

The win was exciting for Jennings and Fuerbringer who claimed their first title of the season and sixth overall, but it was a little bit bittersweet as Jennings was without his biggest fan in wife Kerri Walsh, who was on her way to Beijing for the Olympics, and Fuerbringer was without his grandfather who passed away earlier this week.

"My grandfather was 97, so it was more of a celebration of his life than anything else," said Fuerbringer. "He was married to his wife for 69 years and she is still alive. It's just an example that he set for life. He was the one who always brought the family together and I have a lot of family here because he brought us together one more time. To have a patriarch like that in life is great and it gives you confident in life and that you can be married for 69 years. A lot of people don't have that and I never take that for granted."
