May-Treanor and Walsh are on a role as they prepare for Beijing.

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- In their final AVP Tournament before the Olympics, No. 1 seed Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor used their dominating nature on the sand with a 21-14 and 21-18 over No. 4 seed Jennifer Boss and April Ross.

"It was standard Kerri and Misty where they played well," said Boss. "We just had a little bit of trouble passing and setting. We were a little unaggressive after we both got stuffed a couple of times."

At the beginning of game one Boss and Ross were able to hold their own against the No. 1 ranked team in the world, but it was Walsh's kill to break the 5-5 tie and then a service error by Ross to break the 10-10 tie that gave Walsh and May-Treanor just enough momentum to roll through the rest of the game.

"We started the match off as if we were playing against any other team we were go out aggressive, trying to hammer balls and Kerri is stuffing them," said Ross. "What do you do when she is stuffing you? You try to shoot over her, but then she is right there touching every shot you have. It is different than any other team."

"You try to change your shot but then you are making mistakes and that's why they are the best team in the world. If Kerri is not there blocking or touching it then you know Misty is right there."

After breaking the 10-10 tie, Walsh and May-Treanor were too much to contain. Between kills by May-Treanor that either went to the back line of the court, across the court or out-of-reach of Boss or Ross, the team to beat on the tour cruised to take game one on an 11-4 run.

"We just turned it on somewhere in there," said Walsh. "The wind was moving the ball around and I think we got them in trouble with passing. if I didn't block it, Misty dug it. I think we converted on a lot of points, which was good. They were serving really tough, so as long as we could be the one serving the ball I think we could capitalize on that and do well."

While in game two Boss and Ross were able to keep the game close as they tied-up the score seven times to stay even with the defending Long Beach Open champions. Yet it was another late game surge after breaking an 18-18 tie that gave May-Treanor and Walsh tournament title No. 18.

"We just needed that little extra something," said Ross. "I think if we had that we would have won the second game."

This weekend's tournament was a homecoming weekend for May-Treanor as got to enjoy winning and experiencing the comforts of being at home.

"It's always great to come back home," said May-Treanor who resides in Long Beach. "I'm sure Kerri feels the same when we play in San Francisco or in Hermosa Beach. It's nice to sleep in your own food, see familiar faces and I got to go to Open Sesame on second street which was good. It was nice to be able to kick back."

"I think it was a great match to get under our belt before Beijing."

The (Olympic) Pool Is Open!

Along with the preliminary pools for the men's bracket being announced today, so where the women's. While it was no surprise that May-Treanor and Walsh got the No. 2 seed in the top of Pool B, they were also happy with who they will face during the double elimination round starting on Aug. 9.

"I like our pool and think we have a good mixture," said May-Treanor. "We've got a lefty in there and you don't see a lot of lefties on the tour, but we placed Greece and Norway and they had lefties. Cuba is crafty and experienced and then you have the little Japanese team that is a lot like the Lindquist sisters. It is going to be a good pool for us to get ready for single elimination."

In Pool B with Walsh and May-Treanor are Nila Ann Hakedal and Ingrid Torlen (Norwary), Dalizia Grasset and Tamara Larrea Peraza (Cuba) and Mika Teru Saiki and Chiaki Kusuhara (Japan).

"We have one job to do while over in Beijing and that is to win," said Walsh. "We are really focused on that."

Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs were placed Pool E as the No. 5 seed where they will face (No. 5 seed) Stephanie Pohl and Okka Rau (Germany), Imara Esteves Ribalta and Milagros Crespo (Cuba) and Rebekka Kadijk and Merel Mooren (Netherlands).
