California might be the birthplace of beach volleyball, but Atlanta was the site where beach volleyball was first played in the Olympics.

The first four years the AVP has visited Atlanta, Karch Kiraly (who won the Gold Medal with Kent Steffes in Atlanta) won, doing so with three different partners. Atlanta is the only city in Georgia to host a pro beach volleyball event, with the six men's and three women's AVP events in addition to the Olympics. Five different men's teams and three different women's teams have won here, with only Kiraly and Steffes being able to repeat as winners in Atlanta.

Here's a look at the winners from the past AVP events in Atlanta:
2007: Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh & Jake Gibb/Sean Rosenthal
2006: Rachel Wacholder/Elaine Youngs & Mike Lambert/Stein Metzger
1998: Adam Johnson/Karch Kiraly
1996: Karch Kiraly/Kent Steffes
1995: Scott Ayakatubby/Karch Kiraly
1994: Karch Kiraly/Kent Steffes & Nancy Reno/Angela Rock

On the men's side, Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers have been impressive this season, winning all 25 of their matches en route to claiming all five titles. But the men's duo had entered 2008 having lost the last two matches of 2007 (one by forfeit). On the women's side, however, Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh are in the midst of yet another impressive streak. They too have not lost this season (20-0), winning four titles as they sat out one tournament. Here is a look at the all-time longest AVP match winning streaks:

64 Matches from 4/5/02 to 6/6/04 - Annett Davis/Jenny Johnson-Jordan
43 Matches from 9/5/04 to 7/2/05 - Rachel Wacholder/Elaine Youngs
39 Matches from 7/16/06 to 4/15/07 - Nicole Branagh/Elaine Youngs
39 Matches from 5/20/07 to 8/19/07 - Nicole Branagh/Elaine Youngs
38 Matches from 9/2/05 to 6/11/06 - Rachel Wacholder/Elaine Youngs
