CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The top-seeded men's and women's AVP teams will bid farewell to the Holy City and take their titles with them.

Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers remain on top in their game, as do Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs, after winning the 2008 AVP Crocs Tour Charleston at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island, S.C.

Dalhausser and Rogers, who are also the top-ranked team, overpowered Stein Metzger and Mark Williams, 21 -19, 21-12, in the finals, while Branagh and Youngs defeated Jen Boss and April Ross, 22-20, 21-15, for their first 2008 title. Both teams received a $20,000 check.

This win keeps Dalhausser and Rogers undefeated, having won 19 straight matches in the 2008 season. The last time that happened was in 1991 when Sinjin Smith and Randy Stoklos won the first four events.

"It's nice to be the bride rather than the bridesmaid," Rogers said.

The first game was neck and neck, and No. 3-seeded Metzger and Williams didn't give out any points easily.

"We started off slow in the first game, and Phil served some aces that created havoc," Rogers said. "We took them down hard for the second game."

"When you get in a close game with Phil, you know he's going to get on a run of spikes and blocks," Metzger said. "They're on fire right now."

Dalhausser had 10 kills in 13 attempts, four aces and three of his long-reaching blocks. Rogers had 14 kills in 23 attempts and 12 digs, while Metzger had 10 kills in 12 attempts and six digs. Williams had 14 kills out of 31 attempts, two digs and one block.

This is the 25th win for Dalhausser and the 37th for Rogers. It is their 24th as a team. They will go to the 2008 Olympics, which Rogers said is "a dream come true."

Dalhausser was modest in his response to the win.

"We had a good event," he said. "I'm pretty happy about it. I hope we can keep this up."

It was Williams' first time to make the finals after playing eight seasons on the tour. "It was an awesome experience, but, surprisingly, I was nervous. I was actually more nervous in the semifinals," he said. "We had a chance when it was 19 all in the first game, but they got me into a lot of trouble siding out."

He is temporarily replacing Mike Lambert, who is recovering from knee surgery. Lambert and Metzger were the 2007 winners of the debut tour stop in Charleston, giving Metzger his 15th career victory. He said he is hoping for a shot at Beijing but will have a much better chance with Lambert back on the sand.

Williams has taken advantage of the chance to play.

"I'm making the best of this opportunity," he said. "I'm just happy to play with Stein. Hey, I've got a 10-day contract."

On the women's side, Branagh and Youngs have now appeared in the finals of all four AVP Crocs Tour events so far this season.

"Boss and Ross played a great match. They're also a very tough serving team," Branagh said. "Fortunately, we had a couple more serves than they had. We were trying to focus on our side and take it one point at a time."

After the game, Youngs announced that she was dedicating the game to her neighbor Grayson Fredette, 23, who had died a few days before.

With such a heavy load on her mind, Youngs had a lot to contend with.

"I'm able to block out a lot of stuff when I play," she said. "I always play best when I am sick.

That ability to overcome adversity is an effective trait. Branagh and Youngs are the front runners to join Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor in representing the United States in beach volleyball in Beijing. Boss and Ross are in third place in Olympic qualifying points.

Boss has finished second nine times but has never won a tournament, while Ross has finished second twice. Ross said they will take their experience in Charleston and use it as something on which to build.

"In a nutshell, they took us out of our game by serving to us," she said. "We had some opportunities in the first game but didn't capitalize on them."

The tour now moves on to Louisville, Ky.
