ATLANTA — The AVP Crocs Tour continued the Atlanta tournament with an action packed day of exciting beach volleyball at Atlantic Station. The heat played a significant role in the flow of the day's events as 15 of 31 matches went to three games. Olympic-bound top seeds Misty May-Treanor/Kerri Walsh and Phil Dalhausser/Todd Rogers were both successful in their day matches and will move on to tonight's quarterfinals.

Walsh and May-Treanor defeated eighth seeds Jenny Kropp and Nancy Mason. Mason and Kropp pushed the reigning champs to a third game, finishing the first two 11-21, 25-23 but eventually dropped the third 12-15.

The fifth ranked men's team of Nick Lucena and Sean Scott dropped their first match of the day to John Hyden and Brad Keenan but rebounded later to upset second seeded Matt Fuerbringer/Casey Jennings in a close three-game match that ended 17-21, 21-15, 15-13.

"Matt and Casey are one of the best teams on tour, they're not the number two seed for nothing," said Scott. "In the first round they got upset and were coming out here strong. They've been traveling all over the world and that takes a toll on your body."

In other men's action, seventh seeds Anthony Medel/Fred Souza defeated Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal in three games 21-18, 13-21, 17-15.

"I knew we had a chance to beat those guys," Medel said. "Fred is always telling me don't ever give up. Those guys are one of the best teams in the world ... we had a real close one with them in Miami and we were able to pull it out then as well. The two times we've played them it has gone all the way down to the wire. It's a real confidence builder and we're one step closer to the finals."
